We call it a remote control. The problem in this instance is that the Macy's fireworks were only on NBC. That way, you can easily see what's on TV on another station. We called it: the distance-swapper (DS). It runs on batteries. I don't know if it works on TV's in the US, but it's quite popular here. We also have it for radios and DVD players. Maybe you can order one here and have it shipped to your country, so you can use it as well?
