Facebook Boombox App Taken Down by Developer

It appears that the Boombox application on Facebook has been removed by its developer. This was an application that let you select songs to display on your Facebook profile. They played in a small Flash area, loading mp3s found on the internet. I’m guessing it was a legal issue. I did notice two days ago that the Flash part wasn’t loading and the application wasn’t working right.

This facebook listing for The Boombox app’s owner Adam Mosseri (link) now returns no results, showing that the person deleted their Facebook account. Very fishy.

I am now looking for a new application to load on my profile that does the same thing. Unfortunately I do not remember which songs I had listed.

Here are a few alternatives:

Well, I will tell you right now he hasn’t fled from his facebook account. He just has every single one of the privacy filters on to where you cannot search for him. If you go to this group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2365793283&ref=mf It is PLAIN AS DAY that he is clearly still the ADMINISTRATOR for the group if you look in the RIGHT HAND COLUMN. I am glad I found this article, it takes out my frustration at why would he remove such a wonderful application with the classic Facebook blue look and the ability to upload any song that I like listening too. Thanks for presenting this article that covers this application with this situation. I think Adam Mosseri is probably pressured by lawsuits which is too bad. It is music for peeps sake. I think the RIAA can just kiss it for all I care.

Boombox was the best! Where did it go? It was just starting to take off too. You could browse your friend’s music and make playlists to display on your Facebook page, all without infringing on anyone. The music files on Boombox were collected from accessible mp3s across the net – If you could link to it and listen to it, you could post it on your Boombox. Boombox never touted illegal downloading, keeping the download links to the songs hidden from listeners. It also had links to I-tunes so you could purchase the songs you liked the best. It is sad that simply because this program was of such high quality, it caught enough attention to attract the blood-sucking lawyer jockey that shut this guy down.

This is unfortunate as this was my single favorite application on Facebook…

yeah this pissed me off so much! I thought I’d mistakenly deleted it or something until I couldn’t find it in the application search. :/ And it did fit right in with the rest of the page design too. Oh well, guess I’ll spend the next hour or so searching for a replacement.

I just noticed today that it wasn’t on, have to admit, don’t log on to any friend networks much anymore and was bummed out. Quick google sends me here and lo and behold everything becomes clear. I liked that app alot, probably the coolest no brainer music app ive seen. Expecially since I just loaded what I wanted rather than having to find the song on a myspace fan account and wait for their geeks to find it and erase the source. That used to piss me off

Damn! I have also had this app for several months. I loved it. I knew it was only a matter of time before it went down though….

Thanks for blogging about this! I just noticed that Boombox is gone from my profile, and I was wondering what the heck was going on!

It would be have been nice if Facebook had sent me some kind of notification after removing something from my profile without my control or knowledge.
