Changes Coming to the Blog

I’m currently in the process of re-organizing posts into different categories. So things may be messy for a little while. Then I will be changing the link structure. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, so I might as well slowly start doing it.

Jason Blogs Now Has Tags

Jason Blogs: Now with Tags I added tags to the site. You can find a tag cloud to the right of the page. This will hopefully allow posts to be found more easily, and could eventually eliminate the need for categories. I’m still tweaking the tag cloud look. And how about the nifty graphic in this post that I made quickly?

Nexus Trade Places in TCNJ Business Plan Competition

I placed second with Nexus Trade in the Business Plan Competition sponsored by the School of Business and Small Business Development Center at The College of New Jersey. First prize was $1,000 and second prize was $600, so I came out okay. :)

Radio Firefox: Episode 9

I have posted a new episode of Radio Firefox. This is the first episode from the second season. This season the production quality was a lot better and I planned out each show. This episode also introduces the Wheel of Misfortune where I talk about businesses that have had bad press (Radioshack, AOL). You can expect a lot more shows to be coming soon now that I started using GarageBand to edit.

This episode is a recording of the Thursday, August 31st show from 9pm to 12am. In this episode I discuss topics that include: Making the most out of Google Calendar, Calgoo, Starcraft 2, Marketing tips, useful Firefox extensions, and introducing the Wheel of Misfortune. I also talk about my summer trip to San Diego that included a visit to Comic Con.

Testing Amazon Context Links

Amazon just released a beta of Context Links. It is a way to “automatically identify and link relevant phrases within your page content to Amazon products.” You will see them sometimes on this site as green links with a double underline. They may not always be relevant, but it’s better than those annoying links that show up randomly on other sites associated with common words. Here it should only show up when I say something like Apple 80 GB iPod video. Or Steve Wozniak. Though I’m not yet sure how soon it takes to find the words to link.

I figure that this is a way for me to make a little money off of the site, but without using something like Google’s AdSense. You get relevant product links automatically inserted in my posts when the page has finished loading.

Live on the Air

I’m going to head over to the local radio station, WTSR. You can now listen to it online at www.wtsr.org or open http://asx.abacast.com/wtsr-wtsr-56.asx. Unfortunately they got webcasting when I didn’t have a show on WTSR anymore, but I have a friend with a show airing at this very moment.

Hopefully it’s not too late notice and some of you can listen. The time was 9PM EST when I first posted this, and I will be on until 12AM.

Radio Firefox: Episode 7

I have finally posted another show from the first season of Radio Firefox. There is one show after it before I can begin posting the last season that was on the air. You will notice that I am now using TalkShoe to distribute my shows, and once my archived shows are up I will be able to host live shows online using TalkShoe. They pay me based on how many people listen to my shows because they place advertising in it. I’m hoping this will allow me to make enough money for it to be worthwhile to keep running the show.

Episode 7 of Radio Firefox
talks about Google Finance and Writely (now Google Docs and Spreadsheets), among other things. It is from the Wed, March 23rd show.

Bringing Sexy Back

In the words of Justin Timberlake: I have brought sexy back (stolen from Mike). I had a bunch of time on my hands after an early-morning migraine and decided to tackle the site layout. I have taken the Qwilm!2 theme and integrated it with my previous homegrown theme. The result is something fresher and yet still distinctive. Hopefully things look similar enough for the return visitors to still enjoy it.

A big thing I forgot to mention is that I have been unhappy with the way comments are displayed on the site for a long time. The new theme gives each comment a nice block, and my own comments have a light blue background so that they stand out as official replies. This alone would have been worth the changes.

Contact Form Fixed

I just realized that I never setup JasonBlogs.com to receive email when I switched hosts. So if you have tried to contact me using the site form it most likely didn’t work until now. So you can now contact me.

Should I Redesign?

I have been thinking lately if I should redesign JasonBlogs. I’m not quite happy with the design, and a better layout could utilize more screen space. Anyone who knows me will know that I frequently get tired of a site design that I never quite liked 100%. What do you, the reader, think? If you think I should redesign the site what kind of look would you like?
