Eickhoff Water Main Closure: Points Reimbursement

The Eickhoff Dining Hall was closed Monday night due to a water main break. Students on the Carte Blanche meal plan were forced to use their points at the Travers/Wolfe Dining Hall or the Student Center Food Court. Those on the Carte Blanche meal plan without points were forced to spend their money or Gold Club points.

If you are one of the effected students, you may seek reimbursement from Sodexho. Contact John Higgins, general manager of Dining Services. The Dining Services office is located behind the Convenience Store. You can enter it through a door behind the store near the loading docks, or there may be an entrance towards the back of the Convenience Store. Or you can email sdhgm@tcnj.edu. They will be handling students on a case-by-case basis.

Update March 13th: Apparently they will not be reimbursing students like I had been led to believe. Here is an email from John Higgins:

We will not be reimbursing students for the use of points because of the water main break. The students were inconvenienced and we have interest in thanking the students for their understanding. I will be discussing ideas with our Executive Chef and Director of Resident Dining. I will share those plans with your as soon as we determine an appropriate actions.

Now I understand that the water main break wasn’t their fault, and that they were forced to close because they had no running water and it was a health issue. But when they talk about thanking students, are they really just trying to save money and look like they are caring about the students? How much do you think it costs to setup a dessert cart (which was an idea mentioned at the last SGA meeting)? Probably a lot less than giving effected students between 6 and 10 points each.
